Primary Swim Squad
The selection process: At the beginning of each term, Summer, Winter and Spring, the P.E team will run swimming trials for all children that would like to try out for swim squad. The children will be timed in all four strokes; front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and fly. Years 3 and 4 will swim x25m and Years 5 and 6 will swim x50m. The 6 fastest swimmers per year group, 6 girls and 6 boys, with the fastest times, will be selected to join the DBS Dolphins Swim team. Unfortunately, due to health and safety reasons and staff/student ratios, we are unable to take more than this number into the squad. What does it mean if my child is selected to be part of the DBS Dolphins Swim squad? Being selected means that your child will be given high quality coaching twice a week and will have the honour of being part of the DBS Dolphins Swim squad. Years 3 and 4 training sessions: Sunday 2:30-3:30 and Wednesday 2:30-3:30 Years 5 and 6 training sessions: Tuesday 2:30-3:30 and Thursday 6:40-7:30 Every child who is part of swim squad should attend both sessions each week. Will my child swim at every gala? For each competitive gala, we are allowed to take 4 girls and 4 boys from each year group to represent the DBS Dolphins swim squad. Times will be taken a week before selection for the gala so that we select the four fastest swimmers. Your child will be notified of this and our parent rep will also make you aware. If a child is unable to attend the gala, we will take the next fastest swimmer. Throughout the year, we will also be entering friendly galas. This is a chance for the children who haven’t swam competitively to gain the experience of swimming in a gala with other schools. 4 girls and 4 boys from each year group will be selected for the friendly galas. What stroke will my child swim? Each child can swim a maximum of 2 individual races and 2 relays at each gala. Your child will be selected for the stroke that will best benefit the swim team and not necessarily their strongest or fastest stroke. Can I come along to watch the galas? We would love as many parents to attend as possible! The more encouragement our children have, the better! |
